aQuatell's promise of "Better Water. Real Easy." delivers UV Pure products online Back in 2004, it was consumer confusion that prompted Reid Thornley to develop an online marketplace for information and the sale of water purification products. From his experience in the water business, in both research and development and later in sales, he found that there was a lack of accurate information on how to purify water. With confusion in the minds of consumers, he established aQuatell.com, to provide unbiased information about water purification products and services. According to Reid, "With education, clients are happy to purchase online. Since many of my customers are looking for residential solutions, I'm delighted to carry UV Pure's new Cactus line. It has expanded UV Pure's niche from clients looking for NSF certification and in situations where there is hard water, into the mainstream and to a much broader audience". For 2011, Reid is continuing to grow his site and service, including developing videos to help troubleshoot any customer concerns. |

Positive changes to the water industry in Ontario means opportunity for UV Pure The Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act was passed in the Ontario legislature on November 23, 2010. The Act is significant because it encourages the creation and export of innovative clean water technology, promotes water conservation, attracts economic development and creates jobs. The implementation of the Act will impact three main audiences: municipalities, as it will help them identify and plan for long-term infrastructure needs; Ontarians, who will be encouraged to use water more efficiently through conservation; and water technology companies like UV Pure, as it will help to make Ontario a leader in developing and selling technologies and services through the creation of a technology hub that brings industry, academics and government together to develop the sector and promote it abroad. |

An answer to the often asked "How did you ever come up with THAT name?" "What's in a name? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet…" And with apologies to Shakespeare, and to Romeo and Juliet for that matter, that brings us to Cactus, our little water purification system for residential use. The inspiration came from nature's cactus, a prickly pear by any other name (sorry William), which is actually a very effective, robust, simple and GREEN water purification device. The Cactus is a miserly water collection system that uses the sun's energy (just like UV systems) to capture water that is then purified in its interior mucilage. So, it's kind of cute, it's GREEN, it is miserly with energy and water, it is simple and VERY efficient and effective at making water safe, and that's why we chose it. That, and it was trademarkable! UV Pure makes two Cactus UV water purification systems that incorporate its patented Crossfire Technology for flow rates of 8 GPM and 12 GPM. Each provides a dose of 40 mJ/cm2 that will reduce pathogens including ecoli, bacteria, viruses and cysts by four logs or 99.99%. Cactus systems use the same technology that Boeing chose to use on its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner to disinfect water when it is pumped on board. The systems are widely available through wholesale and dealers in North America and are priced competitively with ordinary UV systems. Cactus systems will be available in other markets later in 2011. |

Pure, safe water, always – around the world This holiday season, you may be looking to make a financial contribution to a charity doing work related to water. Here are some organizations you might want to consider: Free the Children "H2O 4U Speaking Tour" will visit 100 schools across Canada to educate youth about global water issues, and to inspire them to take action in their daily lives to conserve and protect water. The National Geographic Society, one of the world's largest non-profit scientific and educational organizations, has a multi-year freshwater project, that will motivate people across the globe to care about and conserve freshwater and the extraordinary diversity of life it sustains. Finally, Alexandra Cousteau's Blue Legacy is a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit organization that expands on the rich legacy of her family's environmental advocacy, exploration and storytelling. She founded the organization in 2008 to leverage new and emerging technologies to connect mainstream audiences with their local watersheds and their water planet. |
