UV Pure Upstream unit included in latest generation Australian greywater treatment system

With Australia’s arid climate and limited water supply, greywater recycling is an important way to combat water shortages. UV Pure’s Australian distributor, Nubian Water Systems recently assisted VicUrban, the state of Victoria’s land development agency, with the installation of the latest generation of greywater treatment systems in a new high-profile apartment building in a suburb of Melbourne.

In its commercial greywater treatment systems, Nubian uses a triple barrier disinfection system. Following ultrafiltration, acting as a disinfection barrier and for the reduction of turbidity, a UV Pure Upstream unit is used as the second disinfection barrier. Sodium hypochlorite is then added to provide residual disinfection. According to Phil Krasnostein, Technical Director at Nubian, “In Australia’s highly regulated water industry, we need as much information as possible about recycled water quality to meet tight specifications. What’s great about UV Pure’s Upstream is that it monitors not only the basic requirements, but goes beyond by checking UVT and UVI continuously in real time. It’s an intelligent system with the ability to communicate its performance remotely, which is a significant value add for regulators, adding to their comfort around water quality”.

The water treatment system was one of many environmental features of the development. With water playing such a significant role in greening initiatives in Australia and increasingly around the globe, developers such as VicUrban are taking important steps towards greater sustainability in their portfolios.

UV Pure: more growth on the way this fall, and an update on continuous improvement

Watch this space for upcoming announcements about some hiring we’ll be doing over the next few months to add to our expanding sales team. Demand for UV Pure products is booming, not only in North America, but in international markets as well. We’re pleased to announce that our planned product improvements have now hit the streets. All Upstream products and the Hallett 15xs now benefit from:

  • an evolution of the system structure from three pieces to a one-piece aluminum extrusion that provides greater structural strength, reduces the weight, and helps to ensure that dose (radiation power) is optimal across even greater air temperature ranges. In addition, the new structure improves the stability of reflectors that are mounted in extruded channels, reducing any fluctuations in reflected energy.
  • software upgrades that protect lamps from internal voltage fluctuations and will result in our patented Crossfire Technology® being even more robust, more effective and even more advantaged in the field than ordinary competitive UV systems.
Continuous improvement is just that at UV Pure. Product improvements are always under consideration and development at UV Pure, and implemented when fully proven, to improve robust operation, effectiveness, and lengthen product lifetime.
