UV PURE TECHNOLOGIES SHOWCASED AS EMERGING LEADER IN ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AT INAUGURAL CANADIAN ENVIRONMENT AWARDS

Company Recognized for Radically Improved Technology for the Disinfection of Drinking Water Using Ultra Violet Radiation

TORONTO, ON – October 2, 2002 – UV Pure Technologies Inc., innovators in the development of effective, reliable and environmentally safe ultraviolet radiation systems for drinking water purification, was highlighted at last week’s first Canadian Environment Awards gala event as ‘the up and coming’ company to watch for with leading environmental technology. UV Pure Technologies’ Hallett systems with Crossfire Technology patented now commercially available for rural residential customers, commercial users, and communities of up to 5 thousand residents.

Globally, access to safe drinking water is ranked among the most critical issues facing the world today, by the World Health Organization and the United Nations. According to WHO, over 1.1 billion of the world’s 6 billion population lack access to potable water and approximately 3.4 million people, mostly children, die annually from water-related diseases. Reliable fresh water technology solutions are in urgent demand because:

· The per capita supply of and access to fresh water is shrinking dramatically,
· Fresh water is becoming more biologically contaminated and dangerous,
· Traditional chlorination disinfection treatment, where used, is ineffective against certain pathogens (like Cryptosporidium and Giardia),
· Chlorination is now know to cause cancer,
· Ultraviolet treatment of drinking water is generally accepted as the best solution to replace chlorine to biologically disinfect drinking water.

UV Pure Technologies was founded in 1998 to pursue the development and commercialization of revolutionary patented ultraviolet radiation systems that biologically disinfect drinking water. The company is one of only three North American manufacturers of ultraviolet radiation drinking water treatment systems that have achieved NSF 55A certification for Point of Entry systems.

UV Pure products incorporate full digital microprocessor control and monitoring with status reporting and fail-safe water shut off. They have a patented internal cleaning mechanism that eliminates fouling and other associated problems that plague competing UV devices. They also have a patented smart sensor to measure UV efficiency and ensure that only safe water leaves the unit.

“UV Pure Technologies was created to achieve biologically safe drinking water, worldwide, one glass at a time,” explained Ron Hallett, Founder and Chief Technology Officer and Vice President R&D, UV Pure Technologies, Inc. “To be recognized by the Canadian Environment Awards committee so soon after beginning commercial sales of our products is very gratifying. It demonstrates that our commitment to eliminating pathogens from drinking water safely and effectively without any impact on the environment is going to drive a revolution in water treatment systems worldwide.”

About The Canadian Environment Awards
Founded in 2002, the Canadian Environment Awards: A Celebration of Community Achievement is a national program that recognizes individuals and groups of Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to the protection, restoration and preservation of the Canadian Environment. The program was established by Canadian Geographic through partnerships with other community-minded organizations.
