Quebec Government Implements Strict New Water Purification Regulations and Residents Turn to Approved Ultra-Violet Water Filtration Systems to Safeguard Water Supply
Canadian company UV Pure Technologies’ innovative UV purification system exceeds government’s tough new water regulations
MONTREAL, PQ – Aug 19, 2003 –
Quebecois can now enjoy pure and safe drinking water,
all the time, whether they are at home, or enjoying recreational time at the cottage or
campground. UV Pure Technologies Inc., a global leader in the design,
manufacture and distribution of next generation UV drinking water purification systems for residential,
commercial and small community applications, proudly announced that its drinking water
purification systems have been assessed and unconditionally approved for use in Quebec by a
Drinking Water Treatment Technologies Committee comprised of representatives from the
Ministère de l’Environnement and Ministère des Affaires municipales,
du Sport et du Loisir as well as specialists from the academic field
The Committee’s mandate is to assess and determine the level of development of a
new drinking water treatment technology, or new applications of certified technologies,
and to determine whether it complies with the Regulation respecting the Quality of
Drinking Water (RQDW), adopted on May 30th 2001 and enforced from June 28th 2001.
The RQDW greatly modifies the way drinking water production and distribution is to be
handled in Québec. The Committee reviewed a number of drinking water purification products,
including UV Pure's Hallett system.
“UV Pure Technologies has the most technically advanced UV water purification system
available today, and UV Pure has been experiencing tremendous growth and market acceptance
throughout North America. We are ready for business in Quebec,” said Rick VanSant,
President and CEO, UV Pure Technologies Inc.
“Having the Joint Committee of the MAMM and MENV test and unconditionally approve our systems
reinforces our leadership position in advanced UV water purification and opens up many new
potential markets for UV Pure Hallett systems in Quebec,” he added.
UV Pure is unconditionally approved for unlimited installations in environments that
fall under Quebec's regulation respecting drinking water quality, unlike some other
UV technologies tested by the Committee that must be proven in real-time use in
no more than five closely monitored and frequently tested regulated installations over
the next 12 months.
Under the regulation, Quebec's drinking water standards are now stricter than
those adopted by Nova Scotia and Ontario after the Walkerton drinking water e-coli tragedy.
