Moonstruck Organic Cheese Inc is a rural farmstead dairy on Salt Spring Island with their own herd of purebred Jersey cows and a dairy production facility on site, they produce premier quality organic cheeses. The key to their success is healthy cows, rigorous production standards and pure, clean water.

Moonstruck Cheese uses a lot of water – both to raise their purebred Jersey cows and to produce world class organic cheeses. Their farm and production facility is fed by a drilled well and the water from this well has to be safe, or their cows suffer, and the cheese production process is jeopardized. Since they opened in 1998 they’ve been using a conventional UV system for water treatment. However in 2003 they realized this system was not performing to the safety levels they needed.

At that time, health inspectors at all levels of government were on high alert due to a listeria episode at another dairy in the area. Consequently, inspectors were ordering well water inspections on the island. A water engineer was hired to inspect the Moonstruck water system, and while he was happy with the state of their well, he was not happy with the UV system they had in place. Moonstruck chose a UV Pure system because of its failsafe technology.

Since the installation of a UV Pure system, Moonstruck Cheese has had no worries about water safety. Every month a water sample is picked up by health inspectors and as Julia Grace said, "we don’t worry about the results anymore. This year has been a very wet year - we have had record rain fall. Normally we would worry about that but not anymore now that we have the security of UV Pure’s system."
