Wisconsin Certifies Hallett Systems
In Wisconsin, Hallett technology was recently approved for ultraviolet water purification for small systems. This is further validation at both state and provincial levels that UV Pure’s technology is a benchmark for UV water purification.
UV Pure’s Hallett technology was approved for use by private water systems in Wisconsin by the Safety and Buildings Division of the Department of Commerce. The approvals are in accordance with NSF/ANSI 55A, and confirms that the Hallett 13 is "approved for the inactivation of bacteria, viruses, Cryptosporidium oocysts, and Giardia cysts from microbiologically unsafe water". (In an upcoming newsletter we will publish a technical paper: "UV Inactivates Cysts: Chlorine Does Not", which discuss the effectiveness of UV disinfection and the inability of any dosage of chlorine, to kill cysts.")
Hallett technology was approved under "ch Comm 84" of the Wisconsin Administrative Code. This is the section of the code that requires the review and approval of water treatment devices, under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is the authority on all waters in the state. Regulation ch NR 809 "Safe Drinking Water" addresses systems for 25 people or more. Smaller systems for under 25 people are not compelled to comply with this section of the code.
The Department of Commerce code is designed specifically to address this gap for smaller systems. Ch Comm 84 is also used to evaluate larger, non-community systems used by transient and non-transient populations of over 25 people, particularly for lower capacity systems. In these cases, DNR may ask the Department of Commerce to evaluate the system, since DNR regulations are meant for high capacity systems of 70 GPM or more.
Hallett systems are recognized in a range of regulatory environments as "best-available-technology". As jurisdictions improve and standardize their drinking water regulations, Hallett systems will continue to be selected for approval and certification.
